Better Than Ever is an exhibit about the way collective action, in the form of cooperative galleries in SoHo in the 1970s, played out in the lives of the participating nineteen women artists. There is an early and a recent work from each artist as well as a catalog with statements from each about how the experience of being a part of an artist’s co-op gallery impacted their lives and careers. This project was inspired by my own formative experience in this exciting period as a member and first director of Prince Street Gallery. I am the curator of the exhibit and the essayist and editor of the catalog. The critic Hearne Pardee has also written an essay for the catalog. The essays can be read by clicking here.
